Oregon Wine Concierge 1/26/12 - 2009 Ponzi Pinot Noir Reserve
Aromas of cinnamon bark, clove, lavender and violets pave the way to an intriguing array of complex flavors. Spanning from pomegranate to rhubarb-laced black cherry pie, the vibrant fruit does not over shadow the fresh, crisp acidity. While the 2008 vintage was more about muscle and power, in 2009 Luisa Ponzi pulled back the reigns a touch and focused on finesse, while maintaining a beautiful silky frame. As with many 2009 Oregon Pinots, this bottle is surprisingly approachable now yet is very capable of ageing for 6-8 years very easily. With over 25 different clones (most of which are 30 plus years old), it’s no surprise that this rare bottling is so complex.
