Our first Raid our Cellar Night..
20th July 2011

On Friday, July 1st we did our first Raid Our Cellar Night. The Ponzi’s were kind enough free up our 2001 Pinot Noir Reserve from the winery library. We were of course stoked to share this wine, but also to taste it for ourselves! On our current tasting menu we are pouring the current 2008 vintage and doing our best to convince customers to lay this wine down. Many guests are surprise at the 10-15 years of improvement we project for the bottle. As you may know, the 08’s are incredibly approachable which makes it even more difficult to wait.
That being said, we opened the 2001 and were thrilled by how vibrant it is! The nose was slightly muted at first then opened up into the classic black cherry and warm raspberries with a mouth feel of crushed velvet. The balance was right on track and lingered pleasantly. The finesse of the wine was incredible especially considering it’s a 10 year-old Pinot! We only had two bottles to sell and they were gone within the hour. When telling my industry comrades about this event they were surprised and excited that it was open to the public.
If you missed the first round we’ll have two more this summer occurring every 1st Friday of the month. We’ll be taking a vote on Twitter asking our loyal followers to help us decide which wine to open next… so keep an eye out for the options to be posted. You can follow us @ponziwinebar.
