A blast from the past - 2006 Andrew Rich Pinot Noir

I have to admit that I had forgotten how lovely Andrew Rich’s Pinot Noirs are. I have poured and sold his wines here at the Ponzi Wine Bar for several years and have become so focused on his incredible Coup D’Etat, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah that I had forgotten the merits of his pinots. Boy have I been missing out! It’s pretty easy to focus on these other wines as they set him apart from the Pinot Noir focused “Willamette Valley pack” if you will. One would imagine that a winemaker who produces Syrah would have a beast of a 2006 vintage Pinot Noir with all of the heat that year. One would be pleasantly surprised then as was I, when they found that the glass before them held a highly aromatic elixir that glides over the palate with seamless texture, acid and fruits reminiscent of blackcurrants and berries of the blue and red persuasions.
