A Pinot Gris even I would buy!!! (And that’s saying a lot)

My wine pick this time around is a surprising one for me: 2008 Pinot Gris from Coeur de Terre winery in McMinnville. I say this is surprising because I am self admittedly not a big fan of the ever popular Pinot Gris grape. That being said, this Pinot Gris surprised me with its unusually tropical fruit profile and dry crisp finish. The Coleman Vineyard planted in 1984 (McMinnville AVA) which the fruit is being sourced from was found to have a few Gewurztraminer plants spread within the Pinot Gris and this is harvested with the rest of the fruit. Though the overall blend is almost entirely Pinot Gris there are some lovely aromatics complements of the few Gewurztraminer clusters. The juice was fermented partially in neutral oak barrels as well as stainless steel and stirred on the lees for a richer texture. This wine certainly doesn’t need food to enjoy it with but will complement a nice light summer meal very nicely!
