Adelsheim Vineyards Elizabeth’s Reserve Pinot Noir 1994
22nd March 2012
Ok, this is a big teaser here, but I had to give a shout out to Adelsheim and this absolutely stunning wine! If you haven’t heard, we installed a temperature controlled cellar a couple of years ago her at the Ponzi Wine Bar. It allows us to explore back vintages in a way that we simply couldn’t do previously. It also gives us an opportunity to share these wines with our guests. (Keep an eye out for the “Raid our Cellar” events throughout the year!)
Having just sold a bottle of this wine to a client that was visiting, it occurred to me that I had one bottle of the same wine stashed away. I was having dinner with a good friend at St. Jack (incredible experience, by the way!) and thought, what better time to pop the cork? It was quite simply one of the best Oregon Pinot Noirs I’ve ever had! The nose was exotic and perfumed, in the mouth the fruit was dominated by a still-very-primary core of red fruit. While subtle spice and mushroom notes were present, they played off the fruit in perfect harmony. Our lively conversation went quiet for brief moments every time we brought the glass to our nose. History in a glass, and boy was that fun!
