Ayoub Wines Dundee Hills Estate Pinot Noir 2009
750ml
Andrew TurnerOne of the many pleasures of living in the heart of where the winemaking action happens is getting to know the personalities behind the wine first-hand. The staff at the Ponzi Wine Bar has known Mo Ayoub since the wee early days before his land was planted to grape vines. We’ve seen the progression of his voyage all the way through the process, which at times was, to say the least, daunting.
So here we are, at the 6th vintage release of Mo’s flagship Pinot Noir sourced from his estate vineyard. Dark and luscious fruit is supported by silky smooth tannins and a very nice tang of acidity. Complex flavors dance around from intense strawberry to black cherry with a smidge of cocoa thrown in. While the first four wines were made by Josh Bergstrom and garnered impressive reviews, with Mo’s new winemaker, Robert Brittan, the ‘09 wines continue to impress. It’s a wine that will turn those just now experiencing Ayoub into devoted fans and at the same time more than appeases those loyal followers who have enjoyed the ride from the first vintage. This special vineyard once again shows that it’s the place and the love that goes into caring for it that comes through in the glass year in, year out!
